About this assignment

REQUIRED: house sitting experience and references we can check. We're going to be away from around 9th to 28th October. We need someone who is happy to arrive here on the evening of Thursday 8th October to stay in the house with our two dogs (ageing Border Collie and young Boxer cross), and our two cats, until our return.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Be a good friend to our pets, keep them safe, take the dogs for walks in a lovely park just a couple of minutes away. One dog is old so she needs just one leisurely walk each day. The other dog is very young and needs plenty of exercise, so she needs two walks. Take care of the house and keep it secure and tidy. Make sure our dogs are not left alone for more than 4-5 hours maximum.

What are the good features of the property and location

We have an old Edwardian terraced house not far from the city centre in Doncaster. There's a spacious guest bedroom with kingsize bed, a good kitchen, dining room and living room. There's a small rear garden, and we have fibre broadband and central heating. On-street parking, with easy bus and car access to the city and the A1/M1 motorways, and other interesting local towns within a shortish drive. York is just an hour's drive away, and Scarborough is similar. We're a very short taxi ride, or a twenty-minute walk away from the train station.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Need to be prepared to spend most of the time with the dogs, i.e. not being out and about for more than 4-5 hours at a time. We need someone who isn't going to be out all day and in the evenings as well.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

House sit for Maxine & Kerry

Maureen and myself had the pleasure of house sitting the two dogs & two cats for Maxine & Kerry in Doncaster early April. The two dogs, Rosy and Winnie, were a pleasure to look after, walking them to the nearby park was a 10 minute walk, where they could run around and meet other dogs. Both dogs were easy to look after, Rosy being the younger dog could be a little boisterous at times. The cats were a pleasure, being very friendly and always wanting to be around humans. The house is located just outside the Doncaster city centre, bus stops were across the road and one street down for travel in both directions. All in all, the sit was a nice assignment and one we would do again when available.

Comfortable house with friendly dogs.

Maxine and Kerry were very hospitable and kind, always considerate about my welfare and provided a pleasant meal when I first arrived and also a good stock of other food. Their dogs and cats were a real pleasure to look after and full of character, also being well behaved and lively. I enjoyed my time in Doncaster and would be happy to repeat the experience as I have already been asked to. Throughout my stay I felt that if I needed to I could always contact my hosts to ask about anything necessary and they would be glad to help. Every effort was made to create a successful house sitting experience.

Maxine and Kerry were a delight. Really interesting and interested couple. The house was well organised and tidy. Fully equipped kitchen, all in good working order. Max made sure enough space was available for my foodstuffs. Ms Tilly, their border collie was such a pleasure to be with. She was very well-behaved in the house and outside on walks. She looked after me well! Mr Snert, their ginger tom cat was a joy to be with. He would come for a walk with me and Tilly in the evening and 'hijack' Tilly, who took it all in her stride. A wonderful experience in a beautiful village.
