About this assignment
We are looking for an individual or a couple to look after our house whilst we are away in May 2026. Ideally the sitter(s) would be able to arrive around 10th - 11th May and stay until the 1st week of June. The house is ideally situated for person(s) who enjoy a quiet rural lifestyle but a car is essential for this house sit.
You can bring your dog/cat as well, but please be aware that the property is not fenced and our neighbour has 3 cats who claim the garden as their own!
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
The house is in a rural location so house sitter(s) should be seen around the property to maintain the security of the house and grounds.
Keeping the small garden tidy and cutting the grass would be necessary. We have lots of plants in pots and a small vegetable plot which would need to be watered daily.
What are the good features of the property and location
The house lies on the outer limits of a village of 70 people and is in a very quiet location but only 10 minutes (by car) from the local town of Revel with all its amenities.
We are in a group of 3 houses within the village, our house is semi-detached with one neighbour and the other neighbour has the house behind ours. All neighbours are very friendly and one set speak very good English.
We have a superb panoramic view towards the Pyrenees (80km away) and the sky at night is very free of light pollution and affords spectacular views of the stars.
The house is split into two distinct areas - the front area will be used by the sitters (as pictured). The owner's annexe is at the rear of the house.
You will have the benefit of UK/French satellite television and unlimited fibre optic broadband wifi.
The house is located on the edge of the Lauragais valley with stunning views towards the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees. Due to its position it can be a very windy location.
It is also an excellent area for walking, cycling and painting.
Revel has a famous Saturday market. The Canal du Midi, Carcassonne, Albi and Toulouse are all within 1 hour travelling and the Mediterranean coast and Pyrenees within 2 hours.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
The house is in a rural location and a car would be essential. The nearest bakery and bus service is a 20 minute walk to the next village.
On occasion, the wind blows very strongly as we have a view for around 80km. House-sitters should therefore be careful in securing shutters and garden furniture when wind is predicted locally.
If you smoke, this must be outside only. There are 3 x external security cameras on the property.

Mark and Janet are kind,friendly and amenable,the neighbours too are friendly and non intrusive. This is a lovely house in a peacful area. Revel, the nearest town has a fabulous healthfoods store and there is a very good organic farm shop just before Revel that sells lots of fresh local produce. The surrounding roads are small and narrow but don't have a lot of traffic. In spring there are lots of varieties of orchids and butterflies, if you are interested in wildlife. There are deer and hares to be seen along with interesting birds of prey and nightime brings owls and bats. In spring you can here the beautiful song of the nightingales day and night. Anybody who does a housesit here will have everything they need and a very relaxing stay.

A great house with a fantastic view
We house sit for Mark and Janet for 7 month in 2017. The house and the location are stunning, so it’s been a real privilege to be there. You are surrounded by wide sceneries of farmland and in the distant, on a clear day, you can see the Pyrenees. You can spend your days in the swing bench staring at the ever-changing scenery. You can walk for miles and the Black Mountains are famous for cycling. Also you can spend days in the surrounding lovely typical French villages with in the summer Vide Greniers. The nearest town for supermarkets is Revel with a great market once a week. You will need a car unless you want to cycle 40 minutes to Revel and back again. The house is equipped with everything you need and you can even grow your own vegetables in summer. We can wholeheartedly recommend housesitting for Mark and Janet, whom we found very genrous and easy going people.
