About this assignment

We are both homeowners and house sitters (12 years) so we know the process from both sides. We have found fabulous sitters on this site and are looking for more nice, friendly folks to mind our house and love our cat while we travel. This sit is best suited for those who enjoy nature and the quiet country life.

Sitter must be a non-smoker / non-vaper and respect that this is a fragrance-free and mostly chemical-free home. We supply natural personal and cleaning products.

We expect that you have references and some cat care experience.

We always have a video chat with those applicants who seem the best fit for our home, pet and community.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The priority is our precious cat. Yes, we are ridiculous pet parents:) Roxie is a sweet, gentle, playful and cuddly cat. She is an indoor cat. She needs the usual cat care: feeding, petting, brushing chatting, playing, cleaning litter box and most importantly, lots and lots of cuddles. She may want to sleep with you so that has to be okay with you. She can be left alone for several hours so you are free to explore during the day. She sleeps a lot.

She has feline asthma and uses an inhaler twice a day and gets eye drops twice a day. She is very compliant and all of our house sitters have managed her meds with no problem on the very first day.

We are stewards of a Little Free Library, so it would be great if you could restock the shelves a couple of times while you are here.

Put out trash and recycle bins, water a few plants and pick up mail.

Check in regularly with emails / texts / photos and let us know how our cat is doing, how things are going and, especially, if anything goes wonky.

Enjoy the home, please leave it as you found it, have fun exploring the area, and be kind to our wild critters.

What are the good features of the property and location

Overlooking a picturesque harbor, our home is a clean, comfortable, light-filled bungalow with all the modern amenities, including air conditioning.

It is located in a very quiet, rural area (but not isolated) 45 minutes outside the capital city of Fredericton which has a full range of services and entertainment options.

There is abundant wildlife to be seen on the six-acre property such as, deer, fox, sometimes coyotes, raccoons and occasional moose as well as feathered friends. Binoculars supplied!

There is a convenience store / gas bar / canteen within walking distance. The community hall offers yoga, card games, boot camp, and pickleball.

Nearby are a canteen, cafe, farmer's market, public beach and golf course.

About 25 minutes away there is a small town, Minto, which has one of everything: grocery store, pharmacy, clinic, hardware store, restaurant, bank, etc.

The home overlooks Douglas Harbour and has lake views from most windows. There are two bedrooms, two baths, two satellite TVs, BBQ, dedicated office with good WiFi.

The sitters will be staying in Roxie’s room. There is a comfortable queen-size bed and an adjacent bathroom with tub and shower.

There is a lawn mowing service in the summer.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Sitters must enjoy nature and the quiet country life, love cats, understand cat behavior, appreciate wild critters, be fragrance-free in our home, and please leave it as you found it.

Can I bring my own pets?
