Looking for someone to take care of and snuggle with Wyatt the dog. He is very well trained and is used to walking off leash, but also is fine on leash. Wyatt is a large dog (95 lb Greater Swiss Mountain Dog) but is very snuggly and just wants to be with his people. He is happy chilling if you are working but does require two walks per day or one long hike.
We are going to Europe to visit my family in Holland and Switzerland and unfortunately can't take Wyatt with us.
Our Travel Schedule/Your Arrival and Departure
It's ideal if you arrive a day or two before we leave so I can show you some walking trails around Big Sky. Our departure date is slightly flexible as I haven't purchased tickets yet but we would like to leave around April 25. We plan to come back around May 19 but again, that is still flexible. You are welcome to stay a few extra days after we return if that works best with your schedule.
Big Sky
Having your own vehicle to arrive here is ideal as there is very little public transportation. We do have a limited local bus system, but since Big Sky is so spread out and the buses don't run very often, especially in the shoulder season, it's not very convenient.
Big Sky is located about an hour south of Bozeman and I-90 on highway 191. Big Sky is a small town of about 2500 year-around inhabitants but feels much larger since it is a tourist town so there are many seasonal workers and seasonal residents and tourists. We have all the amenities of a much larger (small) town because of this.
WYATT
Wyatt is a 95lb 9 year old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog who loves to snuggle and be with his people wherever they are. He is mostly very chill and is happy napping and surveying the neighborhood from the deck much of the day, but he also needs a fair amount of exercise. He LOVES going on long walks and hikes in the mountains. He is well trained on and off leash and is pretty much always off leash unless we are downtown near busy roads. At a very minimum, he requires two 45 minute walks per day but is always down for more activity. He will sleep on the bed with you and will not get out of bed until you make him in the morning.
Wyatt does not like to be left alone very long or very often so looking for someone who mostly wants to explore the vast amounts of hiking trails in the Big Sky area and who doesn't need to venture into Yellowstone during this sit as dogs are not allowed. Big Sky is surrounded by thousands of acres of Forest Service land and wilderness and there are many hundreds of miles of dog friendly trails (that are honestly more scenic than anything in Yellowstone NP). If you are a fly fisher, Wyatt also loves going fishing and is happy to walk the river with you. He will never run away or even go out of sight while out adventuring with you as his "job" is to be with you and make sure his flock (which is you) is ok. He doesn't chase wildlife except for squirrels and rabbits. He hunts with me so knows not to chase his potential dinner away.
I feed Wyatt twice a day and he gets a mixture of dry kibble and ground game meat (that I hunt for both of us to eat).
Home Care
We have some house plants that will need to be watered once per week. And I ask that you vacuum regularly to keep the pet hair and Montana dust under control.
This is an unpaid house sit in exchange for a free place to stay in Big Sky. I do leave some gas/spending money though.
Wyatt
Daily exercise (walking, hiking, biking) at least 45 minutes 2xday
Feed 2x day
Don't leave him alone too long or too often
Snuggle with him
House
water houseplants 1xweek
possibly water garden a couple times depending on weather
Located in Big Sky
Walking distance to restaurants and shops
Hiking/walking/biking trails out of our backyard
Quiet area
Near to fishing, hiking, and tons of other outdoor activities.
One hour from Bozeman and from Yellowstone National Park
Our house is only a few years old so still feels new. We have everything you will need including fiber optic internet.
Looking for an active person who likes to go on long walks. We live at 6500ft so want to make sure you are fine with living at elevation.
Although Yellowstone NP is very close, we are looking for someone who is fine not going to the park during the pet sit as dogs are not aloud in Yellowstone. Big Sky is surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest where dogs are allowed and there are plenty of beautiful hikes and places to explore that are Wyatt friendly.
Yes
Restrictions: If it's the right fit, your dog is welcome
Testimonials
Amazing dog and cat! Fantastic owners! Beautiful location!
My husband and I had the pleasure of enjoying two weeks with Wyatt and Bobby. These two boys will absolutely steal your heart! Wyatt loves the outdoors and is very well trained and adjusted to us quickly. Bobby is the friendliest cat I have ever met and he really LOVES to cuddle. Big Sky is an amazing location and this home is just beautiful, but the highlight of our stay BY FAR was Wyatt and Bobby. If your number one priority for house sitting is to enjoy the love of a cat and dog and you love the outdoors, this is a great house sit! The home owners are fantastic! When we arrived they went over everything in great detail so we felt absolutely prepared to care for their home and pets. They even showed us some of the local trails Wyatt enjoys right from their backyard. The house is in wonderful condition and they have happy, well trained, easy going pets. When they arrived back home we enjoyed a night at the farmer's market with them before our departure. If possible we would LOVE to house sit with them again. It was a wonderful experience. I 100% recommend this house sit.
