About this assignment

We are seeking an individual or couple who will take good, loving care of our cat and dog and house; NONSMOKERS only, please, and no children. A house manual details what is needed (not complicated).

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Loving care for our 12 year old cat and 8 year old dog, a dachshund-chihuahua mix. Both are fed and given clean water twice a day; litter box should be scooped out daily. Loving attention and play are needed. Cat Zoya likes to be petted and played with on her terms. Zoya is allergic to all meat, so please do not give her anything other than her regular dry food (Royal Canin hydrolyzed protein). Dog Beau gets two (half) pills for his joints/pain, added to his wet food, which he usually gobbles up. Beau gets two walks daily, and we usually let him select his route. Please keep the house clean and free from debris as this is a tropical location. We also have some outdoor plants that may need watering a few times.

What are the good features of the property and location

House is very comfortable and in a quiet area of Puerto Vallarta. We are just 4 blocks to the local bus stop, which will take you to the malecón, beaches, and everything tourists love, but you can enjoy being in a tranquil setting where you can hear the birds singing. The house is in a wonderful walkable (=flat) area, an easy walk to both Costco and the local large supermarket, which has many imported items. A small, but well-stocked “mini-super” is less than a block away, and there are many small restaurants and cafes within a few blocks. It really has the best of everything!

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We are outside of the local tourist area and many neighbors only speak Spanish. Many American and Canadian food items are available at La Comer, which is a few blocks away, but prices are not inexpensive for imported goods. The house has good internet. This house- and petsitting gig is in late March/early April, when the weather should still be glorious and Vallarta will be hopping! We are happy to offer suggestions about both day trips and longer trips. Most things are walking distance and taxis are inexpensive; we don’t have a car available.
The dates listed include an extra day at each end to help with learning about the neighborhood and getting to know Beau and Zoya, as well as a time to debrief. You are welcome to arrive a day or two prior to the dates listed.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Puerto Vallarta housesit feb2020

Gayle and Paul were excellent hosts. We were given a walk around the neighborhood with Gayle and their daughter Jeri before we started our week long sit. Gayle is very organized and had all important household and pet info written out for us. Their pets Beau and Zoya were very well behaved and entertaining. Their house is very cozy and the neighborhood is close to parks, shopping and bus routes. On our last day Gayle and her family took us down to the Malecon and showed us points of interest. We definitely enjoyed our stay and would house sit for these very gracious people anytime!

Extremly friendly house owners and even friendlier cat ;-)

Gayle and Paul are such a friendly and well traveled couple. I enjoyed staying in their beautiful house in Puerto Vallarta/Mexico and taking care of Zoya( super friendly and well trained cat). Gayle and Paul’s hospitality was beyond my dream expectations. They come to pick me up from the airport, took me out for dinner the first night I arrived and showed me around to make sure I have everything I might need. Gayle also put me in touch with some of her friends there. The instructions provided were very clear and I did not have any problems at all. I enjoyed my stay at their house but mostly I enjoyed Zoya’s company. I would highly recommend Gayle and Paul and I would house/pet sit for them in any time and any locations.
