I would like trustworthy and reliable sitters who will look after the place and respect it. Ideally with a bit of ability in DIY/Cleaning and fluency in French.
General cleaning and looking after the place. Collect post, and deal occasional meter readings and utilities officials coming to the house for water and electricty.
Im not after DIY experts or anything like that but it would be good if you at least know how to change a fuse and a lightbulb without calling out an electrician.
It would also be helpful if you keep an eye on my car, and start it every so often to keep it ticking over, and the battery charged.
Experience French village life in a characterful rustic stonebuilt house in the centre of a tranquil village, surrounded by vineyards and beautiful countryside, within easy reach of beaches, historic towns and cities, and the wonderful Canal du Midi.
Village has all amenities -mini supermarket/post office/bar/chemist etc
The sitter is required to pay a contribution of
120 euros total monthly contribution to the cost of electricity internet/phone/ water.
This is an old house, and is still only partway thru the process of renovations. It's a bit ramshackle and dusty in parts so will not appeal to all..That said, it's perfectly comfortable, spacious, and in a setting makes it ideal for those wishing to experience the quiet life in a beautiful and authentic French village.
I am quite happy for you to make yourself at home, but please (unless there is a pressing practical reason) just leave stuff where it is and dont go rearranging the furniture, ornaments, photographs etc to suit your own tastes/personal preference or whims.
Ordinarily the house is used just in the summer as a holiday place. and this being a big old stone house it stays nice and cool inside even at the height of the very hot French summer. In winter although it doesn't usually get really cold the house is not properly set up for winter in terms of heating, so it can be a bit chilly. There are electric oil filled radiators in the bedrooms, and an electric blanket on the bed, but no central heating. Please be prepared to wrap up warm and only apply f you can tolerate a bit of cold til the spring.
