About this assignment

Michael and I are looking for a responsible, trustworthy, and cultured individual or couple who is interested in experiencing a taste of life in the Anderson Valley - a hidden gem in Northern California. We would like to feel a connection with anyone who cares for our place.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Responsibilities focus on our animals. We have a sweet pup, Lupo (a six year old Norwich Terrier), as well as a new kitten, Bangles (a Tabby). Bangles is adapting to her new life as a farm cat and stays outdoors. She needs to be fed daily. Lupo is also fed in the morning and spend most of his day outside. He likes to take a morning hike on the property and enjoys interacting. That said, they are quite easy. We would also like for someone to keep the house tidy, skim the pool, and water plants outdoors. There will be ample time for relaxing on the property and exploring Mendocino County.

What are the good features of the property and location

Broken Gate is 40 acres - a six acre pinot noir vineyard with two acres planted in Italian varietal olives. It is surrounded by redwood forest. The property is three miles from the charming town of Boonville in the Anderson Valley. There is a house and large barn with an apartment as well as a pool complex for entertaining. We moved here early in 2025 and feel like we are in heaven. The property needed some work and we are still in the process of bringing it back to its former glory.

Boonville is a charming Northern California town in Mendocino County settled in wine country and one hour from the beautiful coast. The Anderson Valley has amazing dining options and venues to enjoy the outdoors including Hendy Woods State Park with its old growth redwoods. The SF Chronicle has featured the Anderson Valley as a hidden gem: https://www.sfchronicle.com/food/wine/article/anderson-napa-valley-wineries-17784802.php

There is also a great promotional video made by the Anderson Valley Winegrowers Association: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccXpBa0foGI

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

The location is rural and very quiet but three miles from the town of Boonville (population 1000). A house sitter needs to be comfortable with the "peace of the wild things" and experienced with large country properties.

*****We are looking for someone 7/24/25-8/5/25******

Dates could be extended as the property has a house and separate three bedroom apartment in the barn for guests.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
