About this assignment

I’m looking for a capable & mature couple or person that can look after our young cat Frankie and the house and deal with anything that crops up. Above all they must love cats and enjoy some interaction with Frankie daily as he is quite vocal sometimes and just wants to be stroked and talked to. You must also be able to deal with a vet visit if necessary.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The main responsibility will be for Frankie our 5 month old young cat to make sure he is fed & watered regularly. The house is very easy to keep with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an open plan lounge and kitchen, all a good size and on one level with reversible split air con. Please note the reviews are from house sitters in our previous house in Champagne in the Dordogne. We have now moved into the Charente and had a new house built.

What are the good features of the property and location

The house is set on the edge of the village and has a lovely terrace to watch the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening. There is a second seating area at the side of the house with full sun and hot tub. The location is gorgeous, and the views around are fabulous. There are some lovely walks & bike rides, and 3 or 4 great restaurants just a 5 min walk away in town together with bakery, supermarket, pharmacy, PO, tabac, bank and english bookshop. There are several pretty villages close by that are worth a visit, in particular, Aubeterre, where there is more good restaurants and a supermarket. There is a larger supermarket E leclerc within 10 min drive.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

There is is no public transport, so you’ll need a car. The nearest big cities are Angouleme 45 mins & Perigueux 40 mins. The airport at Bergerac is 1 hour away.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Housesit August 2020

We where very pleased that Julie & Mark chose us for the time they needed a housesit. On the day of our arrival Julie made a lovely meal and we spend a nice evening with them. They showed us around and explained very well how everything works and how to feed Honey and the chickens. Of course the pets were the most important to look after in the way Julie & Mark take care for them. The whole month of August 2020 we spend in their very lovely house and garden and with the warm weather we were so happy we could make use of their nice swimmingpool. Honey is so sweet but also choosy, so we called her our little princess. She came for a wake-up call every morning to our bedroom and when we were sitting outside she was always between us. Just like a baby, although she is already 15 years old. The chickens where very enthusiastic when we brought them some food left-over. In exchange we received 3 eggs every day. The house and garden where very well maintained and super to live in. It was a great pleasure to take care of the many nice plants and flowers all around the lovely garden. There are some nice places we have visited and we went several times to the Super U by our ebike, about 8 km. The area around the village is so nice and we were lucky to see the large fields with sunflowers in full glory. So everything together we would not hesitate to come back again.

We had a lovely time in Champagne ,nice house in a beautiful surrounding with a lot of possibilities for walking/biking. The most roads were of tarmac (easy biking) over rolling hills with almost no other traffic, bikers or walking people. We biked in all directions in a very rustic agriculture neighbourhood. Julie is a very kind host, the house was extremely clean and everything for a nice stay is provided. There is a good "menu" how to take care of the house and cats. She answers your questions almost immediately by phone /mail. It is a place to come back! Ruud and Trudy (the Netherlands)

Beautiful home in the Dordogne

We were very lucky to be chosen to house and cat sit for Julie & Mark in June 2019. Julie & Mark are a very friendly couple and welcomed us in to their home. We had a wonderful time looking after their 2 cats, Honey & Tigger, they are adorable cats, so sweet and lovable and no trouble to look after. The house is really beautiful in every way, it has a large pretty garden and a beautiful swimming pool. We were given good instructions as to what to do in the garden etc. and we were lucky enough to enjoy the cherries off their tree and the raspberries and strawberries from their garden. There are some pretty villages nearby with some good restaurants ( especially enjoyed Chez Moran ). Julie kept in contact regularly throughout our stay. We had a lovely time and hope to go again. Champagne and sunshine

This was a lovely house sit, Mark and Julie were really welcoming and helpful, they were genuinely lovely people. It was a delight to stay in their beautiful home. The cats Tigger and Honey were very laid back and easy and enjoyed our company. As long as they were fed and watered! Champagne is a quiet community but situated within easy reach of some lovely villages and rivers throughout the region. Mark and Julie were easily contacted while away and any issues resolved quickly. We hope they will invite us back sometime in the future.

House sitting chez Mcmillan

A lovely quiet place, with very easy going cats and chickens! Contacting the owners was very easy and friendly, at any time. We had a great time there and would recommend it to anyone in search of a relaxing time away from crowds.

Comfortable home in a peaceful area

We were there for 4 weeks over Christmas and New Year and Julie and Mark made sure we had everything we needed and enough wood for the stoves to keep us warm. Looking after Honey and Tigger and the chickens was easy. The nearest supermarket,Super U,is only just over 10 mins drive away and all details of restaurants and the surrounding area was provided. Even though the weather was very frosty and also there was a lot of rain, we enjoyed our house sit.

Highly recommended sit

Julie and Mark are an extremely friendly and hospitable couple. Their lovely, comfortable home is set in beautiful countryside making walking, or just sitting on the terrace admiring the view, a real pleasure. Tigger and Honey, their cats, are no trouble to care for and likewise the chickens, Henry and the girls, are very amusing, and kindly produce lovely eggs. So, all in all, a very nice place. Try it!
