About this assignment

In May 2024 I need a sitter who can drive. I have a friend who is looking after my cats when I go on holiday but he doesn't drive.
I need someone who will drive me to the airport ( civilised times) and be available if a cat needs to go to the vet.
Apart from that just help with feeding etc.
Accommodation in en suite room.
Dependable sitter/s who treat my cats as priority. I would like house sitters who can get to Spain easily so that I can contact them from time to time when I need a break or if I need to be away urgently . These would be short term sits of one to two weeks.
Initially I would like to meet potential sitters who can stay in my casita which is self contained, while they get to know my fur kids. I would be here at this time.
In May of this year a friend who knows the cats will be in the house to share "cat duties" but he cannot drive so I need a driver to take me to the airport and be available if the cats need a vet.
I live in a beautiful finca in a small mountain hamlet. My car may be available for part of the time but transport is needed as the finca is about 20mins drive to the nearest pueblo blanco. Over the 17 years I've lived here many cats have arrived...So, you must love cats!

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Check there is always dry food and water for the cats. In the morning and evening. Give wet food . Check morning and evening they are all present and healthy. Change litter trays when needed.
Apart from that just check all is OK in and around the house, maybe some watering and top up the pool if the weather is dry.Pets can be left for about 6 hours as they have outside space so there is lots of time for exploring.

What are the good features of the property and location

Barranco del Sol is a mountain hamlet 20 mins drive from Almogia a pueblo blanco with shops, bars and 24 hour medical facilities. It is a great community with a few non Spanish residents. 20km from Malaga which offers so much culture. 45mins from the coast. Great views and walks. Pool and BBQ area. Wifi. Private but not isolated. Peace, realaxation, donkeys and goats. Not suitable for people who need shops and night life.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This is "real" Spain not a tourist area. There is a "travelling" shop which brings supplies each day but you have to drive 20 mins to a supermarket. You need transport. My car may be available for some of the time) and to feel comfortable in the mountains. This is a small and friendly community so any Spanish you try will be appreciated by them. You really do need to love cats. I don’t want sitters who are so focused on their internet work and social media that my pets come second. Unfortunately I have experienced this with 2 sets of sitters. My pets must come first if you would like to stay here.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

House sitting in the hills behind Malaga

The house sit is very quiet with beautiful views and a pool but regretfully as it was winter we couldn’t use it. Christine gave us plenty of information about the cats and her old dog who were all lovely and affectionate. The house was warm with wood for the wood burning stoves combined with gas and electric heaters and there is also a casita that is available which is separate to the main house with all that you would need. If you like seclusion then this house sit is perfect and Christine is very accommodating and informative.

Fantastic experience; Lovely Person, pets and place

We stayed at Christine's finca for six weeks in May/June 2019. Already at first contact a few weeks before the sitting we had an excellent impression that came to be confirmed. Christine is a lovely person, caring and friendly. She made us feel welcome from the very first moment of our arrival. The finca is situated on a hill top in the "Sierras" near Almogia and it's a haven of peace and quiet. If you care for animals and are looking for a break from today's crazy world, you will find exactly that at the finca with Bagger and all the fur kids. Love them and they will love you back. Bagger needed some clarification as to who is the alpha otherwise he would have taken the place himself :o). But he is such an easy quiet dog that he gets it very quickly. The cats are very independent and take care of themselves most of the time except at food/treat/cuddle times. That's when we had a symphony of "meows" and needed to pay attention to who's been served already and who not so that everyone gets their share. This was our first experience so we don't have much to compare it to but something that can summarize the way we feel about our sitting is the fact that we were very sad to leave such wonderful people, pets and place. Over a week later we still talk daily about Christine and her friends, Bagger and the kittens; the way we were welcomed, nicely installed and the pleasure it was dealing with her big furry family. We are looking forward to our next sitting with Christine and her lovely friends.

Housesit in Andalucia, Spain

We sitted Christine`s house, dog and 21 cats in May this year. Christine is a really friendly and caring person, which made us feel very welcome. She picked us up from the airport, she explained us everything very well, and she even invited us for diner. Also she left everything prepared for the animals. During her absence we always could contact her in the case that we had questions. The house and the environment are amazing. There is a lot to see and to do (walks in the lovely neighbourhood of the house, visit the beach or one of the beautiful villages nearby). The animals are lovely and even if there are a lot of cats, it was not so much work to look after them. We enjoyed a lot our time and recommend this house sit warmly. Thank you Christine.

Christine and multi colored cats crew with Baj the dog.

I had great time with Christine before she left and later on with furry crew of cats and Bager the water dog. Very peaceful area with fantastic views, nice paths to walk around, very comfortable and cosy cottage for sitter with all amenities including WiFi and tv. Cats are lovely and playful. Christine is very helpful and nice person to spend time with, I had pleasure to meet a few of her friends as well. I hope to return here some time again.

Christine + One Spanish Water Dog and at least 21 cats!

Christine is a friendly lady who is retired senior homeopathist. She lives remotely in a villa on the outskirts of a small Spanish village. It is a lovely location with rural views and easy walks. In the casita, we had our own bedroom and living room (under) with an efficient multi fuel stove - also a self contained kitchen and an internet TV. This assignment will only suit someone who has an special love for cats! - Badger the friendly, rescued, dog requires firm handling to show him who is in charge! This assignment is not a 'walk in the park' if done properly. - There is a strict routine that must be adherd to. There is lots to do for people who like to garden and do some general maintenance. Once done, however, there is a lot to be enjoyed from this private property - an afternoon's barbecue, top up the vitamin D and to wallow in the lovely large swimming pool.
