About this assignment

Opportunity to live in a typical French village in a mountain environment, yet close to Geneva and all amenities.
We’re searching for housesitters with interest and experience in gardening. Ideally also with initiative and some knowledge of DIY to troubleshoot problems as they arrive.
To look after our property you’d need to be comfortable using gardening tools and light machinery.
Most importantly, we’d wish for good communication and flexibility, so that we can work through problems together.
Our preference would be to find a couple who are available from mid April through to the end of November, maybe longer by mutual agreement. We come and go regularly, but will be away for an extended period between early June and late September/early October

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Care of property: mostly gardening, but some cleaning and ongoing maintenance.
Keeping in touch with owners and checking mail. Occasional small errands by agreement

What are the good features of the property and location

Fantastic mountain setting in the Vallée Verte of Haute Savoie.
Independent 2-bedroomed furnished flat provided for housesitters with private access.
15 minutes by car to Geneva, 30 minutes to the airport, 30 minutes to Annecy, less than an hour to numerous ski resorts (Portes de Soleil, Grand Massif, Megève, Chamonix). Lake Geneva within 30 minutes drive. Nice village with good local amenities.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Must be able to drive and preferably have own transport. We can provide a car if absolutely necessary.
Helpful to speak some French.
The house has extensive and varied gardens, making this the most demanding and time-consuming task of the assignment. Prospective sitters would ideally have experience and, just as importantly, enjoy gardening! In Spring and Summer this requires 10 -12 hours per week, preferably and hour or so each day.
We come and go quite regularly, but the apartment is in a separate but adjacent building with its own private access.
Some house cleaning and light maintenance. Possibility of some additional paid work for other handyman jobs, if interested.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Testimonials

Incredible location close to mountains, ski-resorts, lakes, Italy. Geneva is 15 mins away! Brilliant owners. What more can you want?

Claire and Peter are brilliant people. They were incredible with helping us settle in and have an encyclopaedic knowledge of all of the fun things to do around here (of which there are plenty, both summer & winter). We were made to feel right at home. The fully equipped apartment is in a separate building from the main house. The garden and the surroundings are very beautiful. Our duties have included looking after Sweeps, basic gardening such as hedge trimming, grass cutting, etc. and sanding the shutters. Sweeps is a lovely cat and expert hunter. We could not recommend it highly enough!

Great summer in Haute Savoie

We spent the summer in Peter and Claire's lovely property in the French Alps . We lived in our own private fully equipped apartment in a separate house on the villa. We had a separate entrance and patio, and enjoyed the amazing country at our doorstep with lovely hikes and stunning local surroundings. As per our agreement, we took care of the cat and the basic gardening and cleaning of the property. On some occasions, we gave them a ride to town or picked up groceries. Peter and Claire are lovely, friendly and generous. We loved our time with them and would highly recommend this house sitting.

Beautiful, peaceful, must be among the best places to house-sit

Peter and Claire are kind and generous owners. They made me feel welcome and at home. Sweeps is a beautiful cat, affectionate and easy to look after. The property is large, set amidst the mountains in a beautiful and peaceful area. I stayed in a two-bedroom chalet separate from the main house, which offers a lot of space and privacy. I greatly enjoyed my stay here and would have stayed longer if I could! This place is ideal for two people or anyone who enjoys a homely environment.
