House/pet sit in paradise!

About this assignment

We are Naomi & Danny, a retired couple living in Merida, the capital city of the state of Yucatan, Mexico. Our house combines the charm and tranquility of village life with the convenience of city living. We are minutes away from a major shopping mall, restaurants, shops, & hospital, The Gulf of Mexico with it’s beautiful beaches are only 30 minutes away. We are looking for a trustworthy non-smoking person(s) to care for our home and four kitties. We would prefer a couple but would not totally rule out a capable single person. They would need to have experience house sitting abroad and be familiar with the potential challenges of maintaining a house in a developing country. Non-smokers only and no children please.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Maintaining our home and keeping it tidy, watering plants and feeding & caring for 4 well behaved cats. Day trips to explore the region are encouraged but we require the house sitter to be home every night.

What are the good features of the property and location

The city of Merida is over 500 years old and marries a thriving Mayan culture with modern conveniences. It offers a plethora of activities including, museums, theaters, art galleries, archeological sites, cenotes (underground swimming holes), haciendas, music venues and so much more…even an ice skating rink! Our house has the feel of a small village but is on a major bus route with Uber & Didi drivers easily available.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Spanish is not a requirement but a basic working knowledge would be helpful. Being courteous and respectful to the people is a must. We have a weekly house cleaner but we do expect the sitter to clean up after themselves and keep the house tidy. No visitors unless approved of in advance. No loud music or activity that would disturb the neighbors.
