I am looking for a couple to maintain the property as if it were there own, with love and pride, for about 6 months,.
My property is for sale but I would like it to be lived in until it is sold.
I guarantee that I shall give the housesitters one full month's notice if the house becomes pending and/or sells.
I am based in Houston but will be met at the property by my property manager who will show you round and generally acquaint you with the area.
"Nina's Place" has been run as a bed and breakfast but is now closed as the owner has taken up a new profession in the USA.
While the extensive property is for sale and continues to be in good repair, I prefer that it not be empty.
Responsibilities are to maintain the place as if it were your own home - see that any repairs are done, keep the cabanas and house clean, make sure the yard is kept up (I have workers but you are welcome to plant, grow, chop and eat the fruit!)
House sitters will cover the costs of wifi (about USD$55/mth), electric (+/- USD$25/mth) and water (+/- USD$10/mth).
The property encompasses 4 cabanas, a beautiful tropical garden, the main house and a small restaurant which is closed.
Wifi is not available presently but it will only be necessary to call the company to come out and switch it on.
You will rarely find a mosquito on the property although we do get some tiny "no-see-ems" which are more of an irritation than anything.
The buses are a very economical and easy way to get around. They will stop anywhere along the road for pickup and drop off, including right in front of this property.
Local trips are between USD$1 and USD$2. To go further afield you may pay USD$5.
The property is equal distance between San Ignacio to the west and Belmopan to the east. Spanish Lookout is 8 miles to the north and the ocean is a 2hr. drive to the south-east.
Belize is a beautiful, mostly English speaking country, with fascinating cultures including Maya, Mestizo, Creole and Garifuna.
This area, known as Cayo district, is home to several Mayan ruins, the jungle, caves and other adventures, including an iguana sanctuary and Mayan chocolate making.
Nina's Place is only 25 miles east of the Guatemalan border.
Spanish is spoken a lot in this area given its proximity to Guatemala. While you don't need Spanish to live here, you may enjoy learning and/or speaking it!
The weather is generally warm/hot and humid but there is usually a breeze blowing.
No smoking and limited alcohol use is non-negotiable.
If you want guests to come and visit you MUST check with the owner first please.
This property is currently for sale but the realtors will contact you if they want to show someone round. I will give house sitters the realtors contact information.
This was my first housesit outside of the US and Nina could not have made me feel any more welcome. All the information I could possibly need was printed out and ready when I arrived. Not only did Nina give me a grand tour of San Ignacio, she introduced me to her friends, many of which I continued to see throughout my stay and are are now friends of my own. To top this all off, Kali is an absolute sweetheart of a dog. She loves keeping you company while exploring the various fruit trees in the yard, or just while relaxing in a hammock, she’ll be right by your side. If you’re considering this housesit, rest assured you’re in for a lovely time.
We spent over 2 weeks at Nina's Place in September, 2016. We arrived a couple days early so that we could be familiar with the place before she left. Nina is wonderful, and showed us everything we might need to know which left us completely at ease. She also drove us around the area and introduce us to her many wonderful friends, who welcomed us and treated us kindly while she was away. We even got to celebrate Paul's birthday with Nina's local cribbage group! We really enjoyed our time there and LOVED Kali, Nina's sweet dog! Its a great area with tons to do. If you get the chance,GO!
