Responsible, quiet, and loves cats!
Key to this position is being able to care for our two cats, Snorkel and Nitro. Both cats are friendly to people, but not necessarily with each other. They generally tolerate each other well during the day, but both can be somewhat territorial at night. You will be required to feed both cats - Snorkel feeds freely, while Nitro feeds on a twice a day schedule (he is overweight). There is a water fountain that must be refilled every week. There are three litter boxes, which must be cleaned every other day at most. Though not required, we would appreciate some basic garden care. This is mostly just watering our plants and possibly mowing our small yard (but the lawn has definitely gone a couple weeks between mowings, so if that's not your thing it's fine!).
Our home is a 1940s "midcentury modest" home that has plenty of charm and space to relax in. It is a 3 bed/1 bath home with a full kitchen and a small backyard. One of us works remotely, so we have an office and reliable high-speed internet! (Not pictured: twin bed in guest room can convert to king; office with full size futon; kitchen; laundry room; fenced back yard with hammock, flower garden, and small fire pit)
We're located in South Tacoma, walking distance to convenience and grocery stores and a few bars and restaurants. Our neighborhood is quiet, so it's a nice place to relax or just get work done. There is an international district with ethnic restaurants and shops that is a 5 minute drive away. Downtown Tacoma is only 10 minutes away. Tacoma is a vibrant and creative city that has lots of great parks, museums, bars, and restaurants without the hassle and craziness of Seattle (it's easy to find parking!). That said, if you want to visit the big city it's only a 35 minute drive during off-peak hours, or you can utilize express buses/commuter trains and get there in an hour. Great hiking and natural recreation is also accessible - you can reach Mt Rainier or Olympic National Parks in an hour and a half.
While we are located near a bus line, it is highly encouraged that you have access to a car if you want to do some exploring here.
You are also welcome to stay some time before and after the necessary dates. Just let us know in advance and we'll figure it out!
We will be leaving early, so we prefer you to arrive at least the evening before, unless you will be arriving from nearby.
Jessica welcomed me with a lovely gift basket complete with adorable socks that came in handy for the winter snow storm that took locals and visitors alike by surprise. Tacoma has beautiful green spaces, museums, and is a friendly locale to spend some quality time with a sweet pair of fluffy felines.
Jessica and Will were very kind as to have provided us with many snacks before they left and even cooked us dinner for the night we arrived. They provided helpful instructions and recommendations for restaurants and activities in the area. The cats are sweet and low maintenance. The house is very cozy and we enjoyed our time there.
