3 weeks in the Mountains

About this assignment

We’ve got commitments in upstate NY that will keep us away for a few weeks, working at Old Songs Festival and racing in the Kestrel North America championships.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Feed and water critters. Refresh the duck litter and kiddie pool. Open and close the duck house.

Compost plant scraps and egg shells, take your trash to transfer station in town.

Water the garden if it hasn’t rained, Harvest for yourself.


Sitter needs to spend 2 hours with us before we leave to learn the routine.

The house is for sale, keep it neat enough for a realtor to show it. If there is a showing, work with the realtor to set a time when you can be out of the house

What are the good features of the property and location

Hiking, hiking and more hiking, Plus fishing, paddling, waterfalls,, biking, live music, theater, pubs, rock hounding, art classes, pickleball.

We are near the Appalachian and Bartram Trails, 2 miles from Nantahala National Forest and near Tail of the Dragon. 45 minutes from the Qualla Boundry, 90 minutes from Asheville, 2 hours from Atlanta.

Our house looks out toward mile 110 of the AT. It’s usually peaceful here. We have 2 internet providers so you can work remotely.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We will be leaving one car at home. If you have a valid license, you can use it during your sit. Transit will come to the house with a days notice (M-F 8-5).

Our home is small, 870 sqft, in the woods with a great mountain view. we’re dow sizing to move and sold the guest room furniture. You can have our bed while we’re gone and there will be space for your stuff in the guest room.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
