My Assignments

Why am I receiving multiple emails telling me I'm unsuccessful for a house sitting assignment?

Probably because the owner selected a sitter (which wasn't you), then that sitter couldn't make it. The owner then had to select another sitter instead. This will have triggered another round of notification emails. Sorry about that!

How can I cancel a house sitting assignment I was selected for?

On your 'My house sitting assignments' page, which is available from your Dashboard, click on the 'Cancel this assignment' link. You will be prompted to include a message to the home owner. They will then be notified via email. Please don't leave this to the last minute! Be considerate for your home owner, who may not have enough time to find another house sitter.

Will I be prevented from making a double booking?

No, you won't be. It will be up to you to prevent a double booking, so be careful! You can't be in two places at once, right?

Can I apply for several house sitting assignments at the same time?

Yes, but if you were successful for a house sitting assignment, you MUST cancel the other ones that cover the same time period! To do this, please see this FAQ.

What happens if the home owner deleted their 'sitter wanted' listing, or if I can't see it or find it anymore?

Usually this means that the listing has been hidden, or deleted. Reasons for this may include:

  • the start date has come and gone (listings are automatically hidden on the start date)
  • the home owner has already found someone
  • the home owner has created a second listing (for a future date)

If you were selected for a particular house sitting assignment, and the listing has been hidden or deleted, it will appear to be 'archived' or greyed out on your 'My house sitting assignments' page. If this is indeed the case, don't panic, your assignment may still be one. If your not sure, the best thing to do is to contact the home owner directly (via your MindMyHouse Message Centre).

If a listing says lots of people have already applied, should I bother also applying?

Yes, absolutely. Competition is sometimes very high for certain assignments, therefore you need to apply for every assignment you like the sound of. Also, if the listing is still visible, it may mean that the home owner hasn't chosen yet.

I completed a house sitting assignment, but it's not showing anywhere

There may be a few reasons why this has happened:

  • We only started collecting data about this type of site activity from April 2020. It may be that your assignment was from before this date. Use this form to submit any assignments you completed before then.
  • The home owner may have disputed that you successfully completed the assignment and MindMyHouse, after investigation, has either agreed or the outcome is still pending.

I received an email saying I was successful for a house sitting assignment. What do I do next?

That's great news that you have found a house sitting assignment! The next step is to send them a message to confirm.

Please also find below a link to our house sitting agreement. Generally, our advice is that you should meet with the home owner first before agreeing to the assignment.

https://www.mindmyhouse.com/advice/advice_legal

During this meeting, you should go through the house sitting agreement with them, so that your (and their) expectations are met and agreed upon.

If you are coming from overseas and is unable to meet with them, you can arrange to meet online (eg. Skype) although this may be a bit harder.

Also, don't forget to have a Plan B in place, in case the home owner has to cancel at the last minute!

Need to cancel?

If you need to cancel this house sitting assignment, go to your 'My Assignments' page and click the 'cancel this assignment' link. Don't leave it too late!

And lastly, don't forget, do not send any money to a home owner (for travel, or the deposit) before you arrive. That's just some helpful security advice we give out to everyone :)
